Concert Hourglass Dulcimer

This is a recently finished instrument
that I was very pleased with. The wood just seemed to sing all the way through
    the process.

  .
These soundholes were done by request
from the customer. What a marvelous addition to my repertoire!

  .
The fingerboard is rosewood with inlayed
mother of pearl. The contrast is quite striking visually.

  .
  The handcarved peghead turned out
fairly well. I find this to be the part of the instrument that takes the most
time. At times I am almost afraid to begin the carving for fear that it will
not come out as I would have it. But then, if you never start, you can never
    get there.

Above is the reverse side of the scroll.

This is the bookmatched mahogany back.
The picture does not do the curl of the mahogany justice. All of my instruments
are bookmatched and hand joined using a very sharp block plane and a simple
squeeze jig I was taught to use at Berea.
