Curly Maple and American Black Walnut
This is a curly maple and walnut dulcimer that was purchased by a Spanish teacher from Middle Tennessee State University. I was doing a show at the 1850 Homeplace at the Land Between the Lakes when I sold it.
I am terribly fond of curly maple. You cannot really tell much about the peghead from these pictures. It is a 3 piece laminated scroll of black walnut and culy maple. I carved it to the shape of a lute scroll I had seen once upon a time.
A friend who is a hobbyist photographer took these pictures.
This instrument has bright and lively tone to the sound, I believe the walnut back and sides enriches the bass register more than a solid maple instrument would.
I have several curly maple instruments about to come off the bench.
